Seven things you can do to keep your house clean in between cleaning visits
So, you just had your house professionally cleaned and it all looks lovely. But for how long will the cleanliness last? Wouldn’t it be perfect if the clean feeling could last the entire week?
If you want to feel like your home is clean and organized and like you’re on top of things, read on. With these seven easy tips to put in practice you can maintain your home looking great and smelling fresh even with a busy lifestyle.
Seven things you can do to keep your house clean everyday, in between your cleaners visits:
Make your bed.
And teach your kids to make their beds too. Making your bed is a very small time investment, but it immediately makes your bedroom look cleaner and neater. Try and keep the bedding simple and as soon as you get up or after you’ve had your breakfast, make your bed. It will instantly make your bedrooms look put together and in reality it takes under a minute to complete.
Put it away, not down.
This is such a simple principle but it’s hard to be consistent. First of all, everything needs to have it’s place, if there’s clutter, maybe some decluttering could help. Once everything has a place where they belong, start developing the habit of puting things away – straightaway. Enforce it with yourself and your family members. It’s a small time investment, just a couple minutes, that can reap big rewards.
Do one bit of laundry per day.
Depending on how many loads you typically do per week, you may not need to do this every day, but, try to get in the habit of putting in one load of laundry first thing in the morning. If you work outside of the home and won’t have a chance to dry it before your leave, put your machine on delay if yours have this feature, so it will be ready to put in the dryer when you get home. Now, if you’ve done a load of laundry, it’s not done until they’re put away. Ensure you save some time somewhere in your day to complete the load – including putting it away. It’s all part of “training yourself to create a habit of putting things away before they can make a mess.”

Keep Basic Cleaning Supplies Close to Where You Use Them.
Keep all of your bathrooms and kitchen stocked with basic cleaning supplies – multipurpose cleaning wipes or alternatively, 70% alcohol cleansing wipes, a non-toxic and powerful broad-spectrum antigermicide, a toilet scrub brush, and toilet cleaner. This makes it so much quicker and easier to give the toilet a quick swipe or wipe the gross toothpaste spit from the mirror instead of having to track down cleaning supplies. Try to do these simple tasks as you see the need – most of them take only a minute or two – and it will really extend the freshness of your home in between full house cleaning sessions.
Clear and wipe your counters daily.
It sounds so simple doesn’t it? But in reality it takes some effort. Start with the kitchen counters and wipe them off after meals and at the least dinner. Then once you feel like you’ve got a handle on that task, add checking the bathroom counters to your routine. Give the counters and sink a quick wipe if necessary.
Wash the dishes and clean your sink.
At the end of the day, the last thing you want to do is unload and/or load the dishwasher. The silly thing is that this dreaded task only takes a couple minutes. Get in the habit of loading the dishwasher after dinner, wiping down the kitchen table, clearing and wiping the counters, and give that sink a little wipe. When you get up the next morning you will be so glad you did!
Deal with mail on a daily basis.
Figure out a system that works for you and your family. Stacks of paperwork, mail, and children’s papers isn’t going to make your home feel organized. Put in the recycling bin any flyers or unnecessary mail at the door, open and file any bills that need to be paid, and decide on what will work for your children’s school papers and artworks.
And these were the seven things you can do to keep your house clean in between your cleaners visits. It requires some discipline but is really simple and doable don’t you think? Are you already doing these simple tasks? Let us know in the comments.
